Swatch book6/9/2023 ![]() The bouquets are in gold and a tightly twisted yarn (cordonnet), their hearts are green, red and white the meanders of foliage and lace are in cordonnet and silver, and intertwine with multi-coloured floss floral swags in reds, greens, blues and yellow. 37v: Bronze plain weave ground (taffeta), brocaded (patterned) in a design of meanders of foliage and lace, alongside bouquets of multi-coloured flowers. The inscription at the top of the page does not correspond to the textile which must have fallen out at some point and been stuck back in the wrong place. A scrap of paper is stuck to the corner with the number 999. Shot silk in lavendar blue and pink, brocaded with lace meanders in white intertwined with flowers in white, red and greens, and bouquets of mixed flowers in yellows, pinks and reds. The initials refer to the silk manufacturing partnership L. It reads: 'Taff 11/24 fond ruby clair brochez soye et cordonnet nue de 18 # 10 s de G.G. 57: The heading for this sample is found on a different page (f.67v.) of the book because the sample has been moved at some point. A major scrolling, oval one, a vertical stripe of stems, and a smaller medallion type repeating motif in the ground. Textile 77v: a crimson and yellow woven silk with formal stylised foliage, disposed in three motifs. Some swatches date to later than the original date of the book, and are probably of English manufacture. Some swatches have had bits cut out of them. Some of the swatches have fallen out at some date and been stuck back on the wrong page (as comparison of textile and inscription reveals). Some may be English samples, usually large loom-widths. Some are French silks, named, priced and numbered with their widths. Each page has an inscription in ink at the top which indicates the name of the textiles, their width and price, and gives the manufacturers' initials. A large leather bound ledger with swatches of plain and patterned woven silks stuck on to the pages with red sealing wax. You learn so much more that way without having to try as hard when learning it in the future or being frustrated because you keep having to go back and find things you need to know in a hurry or just can't remember.Book containing 99 textile swatch samples. ![]() **************It does take a while to completely fill out the kit by yourself, but if this kit will be useful in your career or through the rest of your time in school, then I definitely recommend putting together and filling it out yourself. If you're a student you could ask around and see if you know anyone or your friends know anyone that has already taken the class and don't need/want their kit anymore and see if they'll sell it to you.************ If you already know a lot about the fabrics included and just need a quick reference, then you could look into buying a completed kit on Amazon. *************I know some people in my class found kits that were ALREADY PUT TOGETHER AND FILLED OUT being sold on AMAZON. also sells one specifically for interior designers/interior design students.** **I believe Textile Fabric Consultants Inc. This Fabric Swatch Kit is extremely useful in so many ways. If you want to start making sure that the clothes you're buying will last, or you want to make sure that when you're paying the high price for silk or cashmere that it's actually real silk or real cashmere, this will be extremely useful. Whether you're in school and this is a required resource for your class, or you're already working in the field and you just need a reference to help you easily find all the information you need on a specific type of fabric, this Basic Swatch Kit will be extremely useful to you.Įven if you're about to furnish a home and you need to know what kind of furniture would work best with your lifestyle or which fabric would be the best suited for inside/outside, or which fabric will have the best durability or will be the easiest to clean if you have a messy family, this will be useful to you. *****BE CAREFUL when opening the fabric swatches!!!! They are in a specific order and need to stay that way or the entire kit will be messed up and you'll have all the wrong information for each swatch.***** You will need double-sided tape to put them on the pages. Three pieces of fabric go on each page, front and back. You tape each piece down and then below it are lines where you fill out all the different aspects of the fabric. The kit comes with over 120 different pieces of fabric, and a guide to help you find all the information needed for each piece. While I won't be continuing my studies in Fashion Merchandising, this kit is still an extremely useful resource that I will keep for as long as I can. Putting together and filling the whole thing out over the course of a semester taught me a lot about so many different fabrics. Amazing tool for Fashion majors, interior designers/majors, and anyone in the textile business.
